The Cathedral
Image " We all know well that going to the Cathedral without any emotions is impossible. I`ll say more: you can`t go to the Cathedral without inside shivers, without fear, because in the Cathedral there is huge greatness of our history and our past. This greatness appeals to us by monuments, sarcophaguses, altars, sculptures and first of all by the group of names and surnames. All these names mean and determine huge, the 1000s years history of our times. That`s why a man who goes to the Cathedral even as a passing pilgrim, must stop by the greatness of it." John Paul II

Image ImageThe Wawel`s Cathedral takes a special place in Poles hearts. It was found just after 1000 year and since that time it has been the main church in our country, the Alter of Homeland. There are relics of Saint Stanislaw and Saint Florian (patrons of Poland) and queen Jadwiga there.
Since XIV century Polish kings had been buried in the Cathedral, but not only kings, but also famous Poles like: Adam Mickiewicz, Juliusz Slowacki, Tadeusz Kosciuszko, Jozef Poniatowski and Wladyslaw Sikorski.

The amazing impression is made by the black and gold alter of Saint Stanislaw made of marble and gold bronze with a silver thumb from XVII century and also the white marble thumb of Saint Jadwiga. The alter with a black crucifix is a special place in the Cathedral. It is well known because of miracles it makes.
Moreover there is the Zygmunt`s chapter in the Cathedral - one of the most important Italian Renaissance`s work of art at the north of Alps. It was made by Bartolomeo Berecci.
ImageImageThe Cathedral, although it`s the most important church in Poland, doesn`t impressed its size. However the inside equipment: gobelin tapestries, medieval figures, renaissance and baroque alters, XV century paintings, epitaphs, sculptures and lot of chapters leave you indelible impressions.
After visiting the sacred part of the Cathedral you need to climb on wooden, winding stairs to the Zygmunt`s Bell, because if you touch its heart, your wish comes true. This bell rings only for special occasions.
When you`re entering the Cathedral look above to see bones of a legendary Cracow`s dragon and draw your attention to the gate with Polish king Kazimierz`s monograms, which is the symbol of a Cracow`s television.
When you go out of the Cathedral it`s worth to visit Cathedral Museum, where nuns or a Cathedral rector can tell you lot of interesting stories from the Cathedral life.
