In the south-west corner of Main Market there is a lonely tower. This is the remnant of town hall – the place, where the Cracow councillors worked.
The Town Hall has been devastated and rebuild many times in the past. In 1680, for example, it was burned from the clap of thunder. In XIX century, due to security reasons, the buildings of the town hall were pulled down. The tower was the only structure which was left. The interesting fact is that the tower is 55 cm swigged aside from the perpendicular. Nowadays, there is a part of Historical Museum in the tower. You can go on the top of it and admire panoramic view of old Cracow.
In the basement of town hall there is a pub and a scene of theatre. It’s worth to visit the tower 31st of October, because the changing of guards of honour is taking a place then. |
